Illustrator, Artist, Graphic Designer | Hong Kong

Tell us about your background?
I was born in Hong Kong. As a child I loved drawing and painting from an early age. Studied and Worked Design for over 17 years specializing in Mode Illustration, Multimedia applications and Design. Have been active in design and illustration for advertisements, editorial, comics, fashion, stationery, toys, and websites. I founded my own brand “Asteria” in 2003. Products released from the Asteria brand launched since the summer of 2003. I now work for corporate, product and editorial clients around the world. Clients including Japan, USA, Germany and Hong Kong.

Have you had artistic studies and was it useful for you?
Mainly studied in Art and Design for 7 years in an Art College. On completion of the course, I took a Course on Visual Communication. These courses has provided me a thorough education in color sense, hand drawing skill and computer knowledge.

How would you explain your style of illustration?
My uniquely style is to create fairytale imagery, that can be seen throughout my website. It mixes fantacy, glamour and sensuous “baby-dolls” styles. Figures are iconed with big starry-eyed icons displaying super cuteness.
The character Asteria is the darling star for some of the fashion illustrations.

What programs do you use to create your illustrations?
I produce images in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, sometimes combined with more traditional fine art media.

What are your creation processes?
All of my illustrations are sketched by hand, scanned and finished digitally in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

I really have a couple of styles of working, my highly rendered work is more influenced by traditional fine art, then theres a more commercial side that is favoured by the editorial, publishing, fashion market.

I got involved with illustration four years ago. I’m self-taught, I have no degree (or anything close to it), nor any professional training.

I try to do whimsical and abstract drawings. I think my style is a mish mash of the ways that effort ends up coming across.
