Brief Resume
Theres never really been a defined trajectory to it all, it just kind of happened naturally.. and now as i get older its obviously gaining a bit more order and focus, but its still just basically my paint brush and me.. grip full of pens and something blank to scribble on..

In high school I had this art teacher, Enid Kelly, who within the first few weeks of class basically figured it out, just stood back and let me have the opportunity to dive headlong into art for the first time.. Subsequently it helped a lot to define, or begin to define, my style and approaches early on.. dive right in, dont pause too long to think.. or filter..

And I just havent stopped running with it yet.. Doing zines when i was younger, going to shows.. putting on shows.. skateboarding endlessly, Working pointless jobs.. Crazy kids.. Crazier living situations.. It all works its way in here somewhere, i doubt if i would ever really have a choice in that.

Projects
I just finished up a submission for ‘Art Bureau’ (www.artbureau.org).. Ill be appearing in their issue #6 alongside Erik Lopez, Claudio Parentela and possibly some others.. as well as doing the inside wrap-around cover for that project. I picked up a commision for a series of pieces based on some work I did last year, so thats coming up shortly.. 2′ x 6′, I believe, are the approximate dimensions.. And other than that just the usual, self motivated stuff to try and push myself out there a bit more.

Inspiration
Often times it will be a specific piece of music that gets one painting really rolling.. Maybe some old hardcore or mellow indie stuff.. and so ill keep that thing on repeat the whole time.. just blaring away from the stereo speakers.. or ill throw together a playlist on the comp and rock the headphones while i work..

Im inspired by everything… My friends.. The effective ‘vacuum’ that small town living creates.. old tumbledown buildings.. David Choe, Kinsey, Searching for the sunsets when im in the city, Hokusai, Margaret Kilgallen, Sam Flores, Warhol, David Flores, Tomer Hanuka, any projects my buddy Cody has his hand in.. Ye Rin Mok, Jeff Soto.. Nate Powell comics, and the list goes on and on….

My Toolbox
Digi cam to capture ideas sometimes.. sketchbooks at the ready.. berol v5 ink pens, black and red sharpies, xacto knives, cardboard.. a full pot of coffee, paint, Spray cans.. illustration board.. maybe a bit of photoshop for final editing.. im still pretty traditional i guess.. i like to see it in front of me, get my hands on it.

I really have a couple of styles of working, my highly rendered work is more influenced by traditional fine art, then theres a more commercial side that is favoured by the editorial, publishing, fashion market.

I got involved with illustration four years ago. I’m self-taught, I have no degree (or anything close to it), nor any professional training.

I try to do whimsical and abstract drawings. I think my style is a mish mash of the ways that effort ends up coming across.
