Tell us about your background?
I’m from the Philippines; I’ve lived here all my life. Here it’s either really hot, or really rainy– so I spend most of my time indoors. I’m a Filipina by blood (I’m often mistaken for Korean/Japanese/Chinese), and I thrive best in an urban/suburban environment. My mother paints really well, and so does her mother. I guess I got my artistic genes from them– except that I can’t quite handle paint.

Have you had artistic studies and was it useful for you?
Aside from the typical high school art class– no, I haven’t had formal artistic schooling. High school art class was fun (at times), but it’s probably not the main proponent of my artistic ability. :)

How would you explain your style of illustration?
My art style dislikes rules, rulers, measurements, borders…
What programs do you use to create your illustrations?
I normally use traditional felt-tip pens (Artline, 0.1 and 0.2) on plain old bond paper. When I use the pen tablet, I work with Photoshop. But I’m not every good at the digital drawing thing.

What are your creation processes?
I take in everything beautiful that I see. I daydream about lines and curves and the organic structure of plants. I get a clean white sheet of paper, and a felt-tip pen that hasn’t run out of ink or had its tip flattened yet. I put the pen to the paper and I let my daydreams out.
