Illustrator | Chicago, IL

Tell us about your background?
I grew up in Kansas.

Have you had artistic studies and was it useful for you?
I studied Graphic Design in college. Computers were so slow then that I got discouraged and did all my projects with colored paper and a photo copier. I strayed somewhat from the design/typesetting aspect and a lot of my stuff ended up being hand illustrated. Most of what I learned there was practical and had little to do with my developing illustration style, but I had great teachers who were encouraging.

How would you explain your style of illustration?
Whimsical? Lumpy?

What programs do you use to create your illustrations?
Mostly I paint in acrylic, but I do use Photoshop and Illustrator when i want a printed look.

What are your creation processes?
I just try to approach normal subjects from a weird direction.

Thanks Travis Lampe for having taken his time to make this interview with us
