Illustrator, Cartoonist | São Paulo, Brazil

Tell us a little bit about your background?
I’ve been drawing and painting since as far as I can remember. Both my parents can draw they actually met each other in a art school. Which I never went to. I guess I learned by doing it and imitating artists I liked. I remember memorizing each line from comic stories by Moebius, Richard Corben, Bilal, Manara, Corto Maltese, Crumb and others when I was like seven years old from my dad’s Heavy Metal 70′s magazines.

How did you start out as an illustrator?
I am extremelly lazy and it was something I could do without having to study for and earn some money from it.

Where you look for inspiration?
I guess what pushes me to actually get something done is the deadline getting closer.

How would you explain your style of illustration?
I have a very very bad tendinites from playing the guitar and fencing and using the computer so my old nanquim style of drawing got too hard to do and I needed to come up with something else. So about five years ago I learned about vector and pixel illustration with people like eboy and that’s what I do today.

What programs do you use to create your illustrations?
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash and the internet.

Besides your website, in what other projects you are working now?
I’m doing clothing design, comics for a new comics magazine illustrating for magazines and advertising and practicing for the upcoming fencing championships.

How many hours/day do you spend on your computer?
More than I should probably but I expect to buy a powerbook with internet connection and start travelling the world with it.

Do you prefer technologically advanced sites or sites with simple but good design?
To keep it simple and good you have to be veeery good. It’s easy to deceive with lots of complicated stuff.

Do you have any hobbies outside of digital art and computing?
Sex with beautiful woman.

What is your favorite food?
French food and red wine.

What kind of music do you like?
Jazz.

What are your plans for the future?
Have a cartoon on newspapers, comics on magazines and work for different clients on as many countries as possible.

If you were to advice a newly educated designer, what would you advice or recommend them to focus on?
Become a pervert and deal with your art with lust, relationships are also extremely important. Read books.

Where do you see the future of design going on the internet?
I don’t really worry about this I just do what’s handy and try to be happy.

What do you know about brazilian graphic designers?
I think we are too much influenced from what’s produced abroad, maybe someday we will have a stronger brazilian school.

Any final comments?
I lie.
