1) PLEIX IN A FEW WORD?
Pleix is a virtual community of digital artists all based in Paris. Some of us are 3D artists; some others are musicians or graphic designers. This website is the place where we share our latest creations.
Here are some "portraits" of us all 7: http://rxleti2.free.fr/Pleix/dazed.jpglinha
2) NOW WHY THE NAME "PLEIX"?
We have chosen «Pleix» because it sounds funny and we all liked the graphy of the letters, no one did hate it, so..... linha
3) AS FAR AS I KNOW, PLEIX ARE GENEVIEVE GAUKLER (Graphics Art Direction) JEAN-PHILIPPE DESLANDES (Music ) / ERWIN CHARRIER (3D) / OLIVIER LIPSKI (Graphics) / MICHEL METENIER (3D) / ERIC AUGIER (Effects) / LAETITIA ROUXEL (Art Advisory). EXPLAIN US WHAT BROUGHT YOU TOGETHER AND HOW YOU ARE WORKING TOGETHER. (Location, material, if you are working all together or in little parts, how you are criticizing each other etc.)
We don't like putting our name in front...we sign all our projects under the name Pleix, and that's very important for us all!! We are all complementary technically and creatively and it's an ideal situation for us to be together. We just want to do our own projects in different fields (commercials, videos, art exhibitions, music etc...) Being 7 makes our inspiration sources very large, coming from many different fields like cinema, art, TV, comic books and cartoons etc... We like to produce tension by joining together heterogeneous graphics, videos and sounds that generate different ambiances, atmospheres, a same work on the edge of things and we all love to use technical accidents when they're nice! We love to be surprised. linha
4) HOW DID YOU MET WITH EACH OTHER?
We work together as “Pleix” since 2001 but a few years before, 6 of us used to work in the same place for talented directors called “Kuntzel&Deygas”. It means that, some of us know each other since 5, or 6, 7 years already. As we said before, we are all complementary technically and creatively and it's an ideal situation for us to be together. We always wanted to do our own projects... That's a good reason to come together, that's why after K&D we create Pleix collective! linha
5) WHAT IS THE MAIN CONCEPT BEHIND PLEIX? I MEAN, WHAT DID YOU TOLD EACH OTHER AS YOU WANTED TO BEGIN THE CREW?

We all find our inspiration in our society, our world full of contradictions. We usually try to have a few ways to “read” our films; a bit like a subliminal message...You can watch our videos without thinking of it or notice it and find something more sensitive. People are free to see what they want. We are not so different from other artists but we've got our tastes, our own desires, our sense of humour...There is not only one concept behind Pleix, don't forget that we're 7, we are a collective but we are also individuals. linha

6) WHAT ARE YOU SEEKING THE MOST WITH YOUR WORKS? RECOGNITION, FUN, MONEY?
What we are seeking the most with our works is to get paid to have fun...when it is possible.
7) A LIGHT HTML PAGE AND SOME POETIC WORDS FOR A FEW STUNNING VIDEOS. IS THIS SIMPLICITY PART OF YOUR CONCEPT?
There is not so much reflection about the website design, it is just simple to read and easy to update.
  8) WITHOUT ANALYZING EACH MOVIE, YOU KEEP WORKING IN ELECTRONICAL WORLDS, WITH HEAVY 3D AND IN A CONSTANT CRITIC OF OUR CONSUMER WORLD. WILL THE PLEIX WORK REMAIN LIKE THAT IN THE FUTURE?
We hope NOT! We are learning everyday and love to have new experiences... But the techniques (3d, 2d) we are using for our project are not really heavy. We don’t get money for most (but not all) of the projects you can see on our site, and there are many home made processes with common software on a simple PC or Mac. Anyone could do it ...
More than critics, what we did in some of our movies was simply a way to show people how we felt about some social phenomenon.
It is our representation of the world we are all living in, we could also get focused on the good side of things but until now we feel that there is no fun about good things.
9) PLEIX ONLY SHOWS EXPERIMENTAL PROJECTS ON THE SITE, BUT YOU'RE ALSO WORKING ON COMMERCIAL PROJECTS ISN'T IT? (that certainly enables you to win some money!)
We are all making commercial projects now, this is always a good technical experience and with all that money we can pay our rents and buy time to keep doing our own stuff. The tricky part of it is to find the right balance between both. Until now, we all want to keep the Pleix web site as our Gallery...

10) YOU LIKE TO EXPOSE YOUR WORKS IN MANY PLACES, WITH MULTIMEDIA PROJECTIONS AND INTERACTIVE FILMS ISN'T IT? DO YOU GET GOOD FEEDBACK FROM THE PEOPLE?
Most of the time, Yes, we do and it's very nice for us and keeps us believe in the work we do...we love sharing our work with the public. That's why we like all kind of different fields to show our films...At the moment we've got an exhibition going on at "Le Cube" multimedia center, in Issy-les-Moulineaux ( September 2004 to January 2005 - Paris) and also at the may festivals (Onedotzero, Resfest, Sonar, Clair-Obscur festival etc...)

11) WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PROJECTS?
Bleip (who is part of the collective), is an electronic musician and he already released an EP called "+1", he is now working and an other CD... Pleix collective is thinking of making a dvd... and also we are still doing exhibitions in art fields, festivals etc... We want to do other "personal" projects (no commands) just our own stuff but we need time! linha
12) HOW DO YOU SEE AND FEEL THE FUTURE OF PLEIX?
We'll see...but we want to do more videos, more new experiences... maybe short films who knows ;) linha
13) I HEARD THAT GENEVIEVE HAD THE NICEST LAUGH IN THE WORLD?
Genevieve is a very happy person. That's her own “super power”, she never gets lost and it is very easy to locate her in a crowd!
Thanks Pleix crew (and especially Laetitia) for having taken his time to make this interview with us
